about blogging the borderlands   Leave a comment

The inspiration for this blog came from New Zealand philosopher Dennis Dutton, who recorded a radio series on craft, kitsch, and forgery, terming them three “borderlands of art.”   That is such a great concept I am adopting it — and applying it to art, travel, experience, ideas….  Basically,  there is very little that the concept “borderland”cannot illuminate.

As for who I am —

– a long-time writer on the arts, religion, education, travel, human interest… (more than you want to know on my home page)

–  first-time filmmaker: with Terry Nichelson I made “Chaplains Under Fire,” an independent documentary on military chaplains

– and  occasional blogger: in addition to this blog, I  launched ArtLERT and, for the sake of simplicity, have now merged this blog into it.    With a different hat on, I also maintain and contribute to the Chaplains Under Fire blog.
